Velocity Mortgage Capital’s community outreach group, the Velocity Volunteers, recently teamed up with the My Stuff Bags Foundation, a national non-profit that provides new belongings and comfort items to thousands of children facing neglect and abandonment across the U.S.

The My Stuff Bags Foundation partners with numerous child services agencies, providing bright blue duffel “My Stuff Bags” filled with necessities and comfort items for children arriving at crisis centers, often with little or no belongings. The organization collects items such as stuffed animals, books, small toiletries, school supplies, and warm “security” blankets. Since 1998, the program has distributed more than 505,000 My Stuff Bags to children throughout the country.   

“We are only able to reach these children, who so often enter crisis and shelter care with nothing of their own, with the help of the wonderful members of our community,” said Janeen Holmes, Co-Founder and CEO of the My Stuff Bags Foundation.

To support the mission of My Stuff Bags, the Velocity Volunteers conducted a donation drive that brought in more than 900 new children’s items. The team also volunteered for a couple of shifts at the My Stuff Bags headquarters, where they made blankets and filled hundreds of bags. Many of the bags included a plush blanket made by Velocity employees as part of a company-wide blanket-making campaign that took place over several weeks.

For the Velocity Volunteers, being able to support the My Stuff Bags Foundation was a heartwarming experience.

“Just knowing that ‘My Stuff Bags’ goes directly to the children who are desperately in need of love and kindness, is so rewarding,” said Velocity appraisal coordinator and volunteer Donna Post. “What a wonderful foundation.”
