Velocity Volunteers Helps United Way of Bucks County “Stuff the Bus”
Velocity Mortgage Capital’s community outreach group continued its efforts to give back to local communities by collaborating with United Way (UW) of Bucks County in Pennsylvania. Velocity Volunteers from the Pennsylvania office donated over 150 items in school supplies as part of United Way’s “Stuff the Bus” back-to-school drive.
The “Stuff the Bus” campaign which originally started in 2010 kicked off on July 15. Their mission was to help lower-income households who may be struggling to make ends meet with basic school necessities for their children. Their goal was to fill 3,500 backpacks with school supplies donated by various companies and organizations including Velocity Mortgage Capital.
According to the National Retailers Federation, the average family will spend almost $700 per child in school supplies. This includes clothes, shoes and other necessities needed for school. Unfortunately, this expense could overburden some of the local families who may be struggling or experiencing a rough patch. This yearly drive helps ensure that every child has what they need before returning to school.
Velocity Volunteer, Lori Young, who reached out to the United Way of Bucks County on this project said, “This was an easy way to get our Velocity employees involved in the community. Everyone remembers what it was like to get new school supplies so everyone who donated understood the importance of supporting this project.” For United Way, “Stuff the Bus” was simply another means to help bridge the financial gap for low-income families. The “backpack-a-thon” will conclude on August 22nd and all donated items will be distributed to children in need.
United Way of Bucks County provides many ways for the local community to support their cause. Velocity Volunteers was proud to take part in such an impactful event and encourages others to get involved with their local chapter.
