Velocity Volunteers Sponsors the H.A.T. Packs Program

Velocity Volunteers from the Pennsylvania and Virginia branches of Velocity Mortgage Capital joined forces with the H.A.T. Packs program to provide meals to local children in need. Throughout the month of May, the community outreach team accumulated more than 600 meals to help the cause.

There are currently 162 children in the Hatboro-Horsham School District, located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, who are deemed food insecure and depend on the free breakfast and lunch program provided at school. But what about the weekends, holidays and school breaks?

The H.A.T. (Helping Around Town) Packs organization steps up to fill in the weekend hunger gap by partnering with various local members of the community to raise funds and collect non-perishable breakfast, lunch, snack and beverage items for the elementary school children.

In addition to the food drive, a group of Velocity Volunteers committed extra time to help pack the food items into “Meal Packs that Fill the Gaps.” Each package typically comes with two drinks, two breakfast items, two lunch items, fresh fruit and snacks.

Several employees were alarmed about the number of local kids that needed food assistance. “I just didn’t know there was a need for this here. It was so easy to help,” said Velocity loan processor Miriam Blumenfeld.

Among the team of volunteers was 10-year-old, Megan Knox, daughter of Gen Knox, an underwriter with Velocity. “Megan loved helping other kids and can’t wait to do it again,” said Gen.
