Velocity Volunteers Supports James Storehouse’s 5th Annual Free Back-to-School Bash

James Storehouse hosted their 5th annual back-to-school event with some help from Velocity Mortgage Capital’s community outreach team, Velocity Volunteers. Velocity employees gathered and donated a wide assortment of school supplies to help foster kids and young adults start the school year off right.

James Storehouse is a nonprofit organization that supports children and young adults in foster care. They provide emergency resources to help ease foster program transitions and improve living conditions. Since 2012, they regularly collect and distribute large volumes of donated essential items to foster kids and their caregivers. Their collections include new and like-new apparel, school supplies, non-perishable food, and small household items. In 2018, they distributed emergency items to 3,962 foster kids in the Ventura and Los Angeles County.

Velocity Volunteers contributed hundreds of school supplies including 50 new backpacks from one of Velocity’s vendors, The Smart Group. Furthermore, a team of Velocity Volunteers joined other members of the community in helping James Storehouse prepare for the Sunday affair.

“It was impressive how many other people showed up to help out within the community,” said Velocity senior account executive, Brian Napierala. Napierala volunteered with his three kids to help load trucks with donated items from multiple storage units.

Velocity Volunteers encourages the community and local businesses to support a worthy cause like James Storehouse. “I’m very proud to work for a company that makes a point to give back to the community on a regular basis,” said Velocity manager, Kristen Santangelo.
